Loch Ba Rannoch Moor Scotland Scottish West Highlands

It was in the early hours of the morning, very dark still and breezy, when I set off on my adventure. The weather was foreboding. It was treacherous, harsh going, the ground crunching under foot as I went, and freezing cold.

I felt like I was setting off on an Arctic expedition. Like Scott going to the South Pole.

I was breathing out white clouds and shivering.

I could not walk quickly because I was wearing so much clothing and carrying lots of camera gear. I felt ridiculous and wondered if I would be mistaken for an Abominable Snowman!

At one point a very real thought struck me. This was that I may break a limb before achieving my goal of capturing this image. If I did, then there was no-one around to rescue me and I would end up in isolation, probably freezing to death.

This was one of those days when you just want to jump in your car, with your engine running to keep warm and hold a hot drink between your hands. Or, you want to stay at your hotel, snuggled up in the warmth of your bed, or by the glow and crackle of the open log fire, and not bother going out.

I love the landscape here, only 15 miles from Glen Coe. Scotland is a stunning Country. The scenery is beautiful and varied.

There are dramatic mountain peaks. Gorgeous glens. Peaceful, picturesque lochs and amazing beaches. Castles abound.

I arrived at Loch Ba in the darkness. After scouting around, carefully feeling my way by putting one foot very slowly in front of the other, I checked out the firmness of the ground. I chose my location carefully, to capture this image.

There is usually a flock of photographers competing for the best spot here at any time of day. On this occasion, as the sun started to rise, I felt completely isolated as I was the only photographer here. I felt lonely and was chilled to the bone from the icy weather.

Loch Ba sits to the north of Lochan na h’Achlaise. Small islands, dotted with trees, give this place a rare beauty.

The snow-capped mountain in the background took my breath away. Suddenly, the feeling of being so cold, escaped me, as the sun started to peak through and cast a beautiful golden shadow, reflecting on the water. This created the feeling of warmth.

You must agree this is a stunning location. This picture will look good hanging on any wall, in any size that you wish to order.
